Rob Wilson congratulates Christmas card competition winner
Reading East MP, Rob Wilson, visited Highdown School on Friday to meet with the winner and runner-up of his 2008 Christmas card design competition and invite them to Westminster for tea in the New Year. This year’s competition, with the theme ‘Christmas around the world’, was the fourth time Rob has invited school children from across Reading East to submit their designs for his Christmas card. A record number of pupils entered the competition. The winning design, by Naomi Winter (age 11) features a Christmas tree, decorated with ornaments from around the world and presents under the tree, with flag wrapping paper. Her design decorates the front of Rob’s card, which is now being delivered across the constituency. There were three runners up, a design with people standing around a globe, holding hands and wearing national dress by Aimée Bowden (age 13), also from Highdown, a Christmas tiger design by Elanor Stanesby (age 13) from Hemdean House School and a design featuring a Christmas angel by Katy Timm (age 15) from Addington School. Speaking about this year’s competition, Rob said, “I am extremely pleased that so many pupils entered the competition this year and was very impressed by the clever designs. I would like to commend all the pupils that entered for the effort they put into the competition. “I would particularly like to congratulate Naomi Winter for her winning design, and the runners up for their superb effort. I look forward to welcoming them all when they visit the Houses of Parliament to join me for tea and cake. “I would like to wish everyone in Reading East a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.” |
